….it is apparently the end of the world.
I leave NYC for 2.5 seconds and there is an earthquake and now a Hurricane. I was minding my own business in Southern California when all of a sudden everywhere I turned people were talking about Irene. Clearly, she was going to be a situation.
I was supposed to fly back to NYC on the redeye Friday night – classes start Monday I figured I had enough of a cushion, until the unthinkable a Hurricane on a path to directly hit NYC. I knew that if I didn’t get back to the city earlier then 5 am Saturday then I would have an issue, not only would I risk the planes not being able to land, but also I’ve been gone for 2 weeks so I had no groceries or any supplies in my apartment.
Thankfully my Mom and I decided to try our luck going to the airport at 10am Friday and I was luckily able to be the first person in the standby list for a 12:30 flight. All of my friends were evacuating the city and here I was just trying to get back.
When I finally got home I took my little granny cart and headed to the market, I got the last box of water left, some snacks, then I went off to the hardware store. Let me tell you, people were stocking up like crazy, they were out of everything you could need, except duct tape lots of that. It was a good thing I brought a small flashlight from home in my suitcase.
As it is now I just took a shower (probably my last one with hot water – I hear some people have already lost theirs) my tub is filling with water in case I need extra. My table is ready for no electricity:

At least I found another use for my Hannukah Menorah!
My freezer is filled with bags of water that froze over night that will keep it cold if the power goes out:

And my fridge is well stocked:
So now I wait. I’m already getting bored, but at least I’m prepared.
Maybe I need a hurricane buddy – anyone have any interest?!?!? I’ve got lots of snacks!!!
