Hello Stranger

This is just a post to say that I am alive. Law school has taken over my life and this little corner of the internet has taken a back seat to life.

It is fitting that my last post was about finals, and yet again they are here again. This time things are a bit different, because when I finish these finals I will be done with law school!

Hopefully I will find some more time to start updating on my most recent misadventures, because lately there have been many. For one I seem to be allergic to my apartment, and at times my own tears – that’s been a  nice little walk in the park.

To those that have pushed me back into blogging, thanks for that – and hopefully you can help create some misadventures, or at least do something to help unblock my writers block.

7 More Days

In a week from now I will be done with finals! I will also be only a semester away from graduating from law school. [So crazy to even think about!!] More importantly though, a week from tomorrow (Sat.) I will be back home in Southern California. I can’t even tell you how excited I am!!

I haven’t been home since the middle of October and before that, it was April when I was last home. Unfortunately, every other time I’ve gone home I’ve had school/projects/finals to deal with. I figured that since my finals were going to be done by next Friday I would finally have a trip home free from work. Boy was I wrong!

I knew that I would  be applying for jobs – which in itself can be a full time job- but I forgot about the winter session class I’m taking. It’s not a class exactly, but it’s a trial advocacy program. I knew that the two weeks of the actual program itself are very intense, but I didn’t realize all of the prep work necessary to do BEFORE it even started.

trial adThese are only five cases (but they are all essentially a book each!) Not only that, I have to have other things prepared all for the first day. YIKES.

Not only was I excited about break, I was so excited to finally be able to start reading this:

Hunger GamesAfter seeing a trailer for the movie, and hearing my friends talk about The Hunger Games for the past year, a friend of mine lent me their copy. Meanwhile, ever since I got the book – weeks ago- it has just been sitting in my apartment. Unfortunately, I just don’t have free time to read anything other than law school related stuff right now. And trust me, while I have read some interesting cases/articles, the majority of what I’ve had to read this semester has been a snooze fest.

Before law school, reading used to be  fun, I’m hoping that after law school it will be again. As of now I dread having to pick up my case books – I barely even want to look at them right now. YUCK.

Have any of you read The Hunger Games? Are you excited to see the movie?

It’s That Time of Year Again

FINALS! The most wonderful time of the year (not!!) is upon us. That means anything and everything that can go wrong probably will. For that reason I am making sure to routinely back up my computer – trust me when your hard drive crashes during midterms it is an awful, awful feeling.

Also the library is sad, lonely, and depressing at 10:45 PM. I don’t recommend it.

LibraryAfter staying at school so late Tuesday, I decided to call it an early night yesterday (Wednesday) and head home to continue working (ie watch tv online) from the comfort of my own apartment. I left school at 8:45pm.

Needless to say I got home around 10:00PM, after waiting almost half an hour for a bus in the pouring rain. Even though I was standing at the bus stop and had a covering over me I still had to have my umbrella open because the rain was coming from every direction. I honestly didn’t think my umbrella could last much longer before it would start leaking on me, there was that much rain. After waiting for the first 10 minutes I debated whether to start walking, but as time went on, the raining only got harder and I remembered that I had about 40 lbs of books in my backpack. So I waited, and then I waited some more.

Finally the bus came! While on the bus I did I met a nice woman who sells/distributes very high end wines, and she gave me her card. So if anyone is in the mood for some very nice wine (read-expensive), I can point you in the right direction. But now, I should probably start getting ready for school (don’t want to be late on the last day),  only 2 classes until freedom! Freedom from class that is, I still have those 2 papers (which are about half done) and the finals to study for. At least I’m making progress, slowly but surely!

It was pour

What also sucks is waiting

Shall we walk or drive?

Early this evening after I’d  finally gotten back into a work grove (after taking a 3 hr long break- oops) suddenly, I heard all of this noise and commotion. It took me a few minutes to register that I was hearing  someone pounding/banging on a door. I then realized that it was coming from the area in between my building and the one next door.

I look out my window just in time to see a fireman push open the basement door of the building next door and go in, followed by his fellow NYC fireman. I saw them walk in and then the door closed and I couldn’t see anything else. I figured since I didn’t hear any fire alarms, see or smell smoke that everything was fine. I haven’t heard anything else since then either, so let’s just assume everything is fine right?

Now, for me the real mystery is not what happened, but HOW did the fireman GET to the building? They were dressed in their suits and had tanks on their back, so the simple answer is they just drove here in the firetruck. You all probably think I’m completely ridiculous for even giving this any thought, but there’s a twist. See I live 3 buildings down from the firehouse, meaning the basement they went into is only 2 buildings down.

So what do you think- did they drive the firetruck 2 buildings down or just walk from the firehouse?!?!

*as a side note, once I got off track due to the fireman situation it has taken me way to long to get motivated again to even dare mention – the shame.

Hello Long Lost Blog Word

I have a piece of advice, don’t go to law school (unless you really, really want to be a lawyer). Law school is the reason I keep dropping off the face of the earth. But I figured since I just paid to renew my subscriptions for this little piece of the internet-world I should at least let you all know I’m still alive and kicking. Let’s just hope that statement is still true in 2 weeks at the end of my finals.

Only a minimum of 20 pages, a minimum of 10 and maximum of 20 pages, a family law final, and a criminal procedure 2 final separate me from the amazingness that is winter break. I’m not going to lie, the next 2 weeks are looking super bleak, depressing and stressful. The life of a 3L right?!? Let’s not forget the whole trying to find a job for after graduation situation, that is another black hole too depressing to even contemplate.

And on that happy note, I’m going to go decide between hitting the books some more or going to sleep so I can wake up super early to attempt to tackle these papers –> both AMAZING options on a Friday night in NYC no?!?

Waste of a Good Hair Day

So, as you probably know, the hurricane passed, luckily nothing really happened here in the city. Unfortunately, that meant, I had school and work that Monday. Since then I have been playing serious catch up. Whoever said 3L year of law school was boring (some even called it a breeze) was LYING.

The past few weeks have been crazy school wise. I spent the majority of this week working on a motion that was due Thursday. Let me tell you, it was not easy and the only thing that keep me going on all of the nights I was up until the early hours and going to sleep with the sunrise was the thought of the weekend.

Now, here we are, it’s Friday night and the weekend is here! And yet, I’m here sitting at home- bored-  I was so busy just trying to make it to the weekend that I forgot to make plans. OOPS. The ultimate kicker is that I am having a GREAT hair day, one of those that doesn’t come around often – oh well. Sometimes it’s good to just have a night to hang out and catch up. I have the new issue of Cosmo, so that should entertain me for a bit.

On a side note, have you watched the show How to Make it in America. I watched the first season recently and I thought it was great – I’ve been seeing ads for the new season all over the subway, hopefully it’s as good as the first!

In Case You Didn’t Know

….it is apparently the end of the world.

I leave NYC for 2.5 seconds and there is an earthquake and now a Hurricane.  I was minding my own business in Southern California when all of a sudden everywhere I turned people were talking about Irene. Clearly, she was going to be a situation.

I was supposed to fly back to NYC on the redeye Friday night – classes start Monday I figured I had enough of a cushion, until the unthinkable a Hurricane on a path to directly hit NYC. I knew that if I didn’t get back to the city earlier then 5 am Saturday then I would have an issue, not only would I risk the planes not being able to land, but also I’ve been gone for 2 weeks so I had no groceries or any supplies in my apartment.

Thankfully my Mom and I decided to try our luck going to the airport at 10am Friday and I was luckily able to be the first person in the standby list for a 12:30 flight. All of my friends were evacuating the city and here I was just trying to get back.

When I finally got home I took my little granny cart and headed to the market, I got the last box of water left, some snacks, then I went off to the hardware store. Let me tell you, people were stocking up like crazy, they were out of everything you could need, except duct tape lots of that. It was a good thing I brought a small flashlight from home in my suitcase.

As it is now I just took a shower (probably my last one with hot water – I hear some people have already lost theirs) my tub is filling with water in case I need extra. My table is ready for no electricity:

At least I found another use for my Hannukah Menorah!

My freezer is filled with bags of water that froze over night that will keep it cold if the power goes out:

And my fridge is well stocked:

So now I wait. I’m already getting bored, but at least I’m prepared.

Maybe I need a hurricane buddy – anyone have any interest?!?!? I’ve got lots of snacks!!!
